A team of Sanghamittians participates the Model United Nations 2016 in South Africa

Twelve students of the Sanghamitta Balika recently represented the 14th session of the Johannesburg Model United Nations (JoMUN – XIV) conference held from 6th to 9th of October at the American International School of Johannesburg, South Africa. There were around three hundred delegates from 17 invited schools including The International School (TIS) Galle representing 62 different nationalities.

This conference consisted with many events which were more academically valuable. It was held according to the Hauge Model UN Procedures. There were eleven committees such as ICC, GA 3, Security Council, UNHRC and those committees were totally based on resolution debating.

Each resolution was taken into debate after getting the approval of an observation panel which was consisted with the teacher directors and other officials of JoMUN xiv. The teachers representing the Sanghamitta Balika were also selected to be the members of the observation panel. The team returned to Sri Lanka with enhanced information and details to implement the school MUN model in the future.

In making this overseas educational tour a success, there were many great personalities including the Madam Principal Mrs. Chandani Udakumbura and the Education Ministry of Sri Lanka.
